C.S. Lunde arkitekter was established to explore architecture as a language. The relationship between void and solid defines that language, and the sun plays an essential role in this relationship. Not only is the sun the main nourishment for natural life. That is of plant, human, and animal life. It is also our main light source that, through its rays, makes any architectural object visible through a play of light and shadow. We wanted to play with the idea of the sun for the company's logo. The first logo was an abstract representation of an enclosed garden - a Hortus Conclusus. Inside the walled garden are two suns; one is abstract, and the other is imbued with facial features. They communicate two opposed ways of considering form; one with iconography and meaning, represented by the sun with facial features to the left, and the other is that of abstraction and negation of meaning, represented by the sun to the right. The building in the middle has a similar ornament to that of the garden, as if the building is an organic part of the garden, merging with the plants and the leaves. A date palm tree with two coconuts is on each side of the building. The anchor at the bottom left represents the traveling character of the studio. The tortoise on the right refers to the slowness of architecture.
